Energy Security

The Portland ERF will make a significant improvement to energy security.

Dorset has a very low level of baseload (i.e. 24/7) generation capacity - the facility would provide additional generation on Portland which is currently constrained. The Portland ERF has a baseload generation capability of ~18MW, of which ~15MW will be available for export.

It will be the second largest baseload generator in Dorset and provide a significant addition to Dorset’s overall energy security in line with national policy. The Portland ERF will provide generation capability on Portland and help facilitate the growth of local business and industry.

The Portland ERF is fully in-line with the functions and ambitions of this new Government department.
